Rate My Voice analyzes a short singing sample and gives you an explainable Voice Performance Score out of 100 based on measurable characteristics of that recording. Instead of trying to judge whether your voice is “beautiful” or whether you are a talented singer, the tool focuses on four practical areas: pitch stability, pitch control, vocal consistency, and dynamic control.
The result is best treated as feedback on one performance sample. Your score can change when you sing a different phrase, use another register, change microphone distance, or record in a noisier room.

How to Use Rate My Voice
Using the tool takes only a short singing sample.
- Click Rate My Voice.
- Allow microphone access when your browser requests it.
- Sing a comfortable phrase for about 12 seconds.
- Keep your microphone at a reasonably consistent distance.
- Avoid background music so the detector can focus on your voice.
- Let the timer finish or click Finish & Analyze.
- Review your overall score and individual performance categories.
- Use Copy Results to save your measurements or Rate Again to record another sample.
You do not need to sing your highest or lowest possible notes. A clear phrase in a comfortable part of your range usually provides a more useful sample.

What Does Your Voice Performance Score Mean?
The overall result is displayed as a score from 0 to 100.
It is important to understand exactly what that number represents.
The score summarizes measurable characteristics detected in the recording you just made. It is not a permanent rating of your voice, an assessment of your artistic talent, or a prediction of your potential as a singer.
A higher score generally means the sample contained clearer and more controlled measurable vocal behavior. A lower result may reflect greater pitch variation, abrupt changes, inconsistent signal detection, large level changes, or recording conditions that made the voice harder to analyze.
A useful way to interpret the result is:
- 85–100: very steady and consistent sample
- 70–84: mostly controlled sample with some natural variation
- 50–69: noticeable pitch or signal variation
- Below 50: difficult or inconsistent sample that may benefit from another recording
Do not treat these bands as grades for singing ability.
Pitch Stability
Pitch Stability measures how steady the locally stable parts of your pitch appear.
A singer sustaining one note may naturally receive a high stability result because the frequency remains relatively consistent. A phrase with slides, ornaments, or expressive pitch movement can produce more variation.
That means lower stability is not automatically bad singing.
The score is most useful when comparing similar exercises. For example, if you repeatedly sustain the same note, stability can help you see whether your pitch becomes more controlled over time.

Pitch Control
Pitch Control looks at how smoothly pitch moves from one detected point to another.
Normal melodies contain pitch changes, so the tool does not simply penalize movement. Instead, abrupt or erratic changes can reduce this part of the score.
Several things can influence pitch control:
- moving between registers;
- approaching a difficult note;
- vocal tension;
- intentional slides;
- unstable breath support;
- background noise interfering with detection.

Vocal Consistency
Vocal Consistency measures how reliably the tool can identify usable voiced audio throughout your sample.
A clear, continuous singing phrase generally gives the analyzer more usable information. Frequent pauses, whisper-like sounds, very weak input, clipping, or noise can lower consistency.
This metric partly reflects recording quality as well as vocal production, so a lower result does not necessarily mean your singing technique is poor.
Try another recording before drawing conclusions if the microphone signal was weak.

Dynamic Control
Dynamic Control describes how consistently the recorded signal level behaves during the sample.
Healthy singing does not require one constant volume. Musical dynamics are an important part of expression.
This score instead looks for very large or erratic changes in the captured level.
Microphone position matters here. Moving close to the microphone and then far away can change the result even if your vocal production stays similar.

Average Pitch and Observed Range
The result also shows your average pitch in Hz and the observed pitch range of the recording.
Average pitch provides a rough indication of where the analyzed phrase was centered.
Observed range describes the pitch spread detected during that particular sample. It is shown in semitones.
This is not your complete vocal range.
A person may have a two-, three-, or wider octave range but sing only a small interval during the 12-second test. To understand what counts as a normal span, read how many octaves is a normal vocal range.

Why Can My Score Change?
It is normal to receive somewhat different results across multiple attempts.
Changes can come from:
- singing a different melody;
- switching from chest voice to head voice;
- using more or less vibrato;
- changing volume;
- microphone distance;
- room noise;
- breathiness;
- vocal fatigue;
- very low or high notes;
- different devices.

Accuracy and Limitations
Rate My Voice uses browser microphone analysis to estimate pitch and signal characteristics. Like any microphone-based vocal analyzer, it has limitations.
Background music, room reflections, microphone quality, clipping, vocal fry, breathiness, strong harmonics, rapid pitch changes, and very quiet singing can affect detection.
The score also cannot measure many important aspects of musicianship.
It does not objectively determine:
- vocal beauty;
- emotional expression;
- musical interpretation;
- songwriting ability;
- stage presence;
- professional potential;
- vocal health.

Privacy and Microphone Processing
Microphone access begins only after you click Rate My Voice.
The plugin analyzes your microphone signal in the browser to calculate the displayed measurements. It does not include a feature that uploads or permanently saves your singing recording.
The active microphone stream is stopped when the analysis is completed or reset.
Your browser still controls microphone permissions, so you can deny or revoke access through your browser settings.

Can an online tool really rate my singing voice?
It can measure specific acoustic characteristics of a recording and summarize them as a performance score. It cannot objectively determine whether your voice is artistically “good” or “bad.”
Is 90/100 a professional singing score?
No. A high result means the measurable characteristics used by this tool were strong in that sample. It does not represent professional certification or overall singing ability.
Why did I get a lower score when singing a harder song?
A difficult melody may contain larger pitch jumps, register changes, dynamic shifts, or less stable notes. Those differences can influence the measurements.
Does vibrato lower my score?
Natural vibrato creates pitch movement. The analysis is designed to tolerate normal musical variation, but very wide or irregular movement can affect pitch-based measurements.
Can I improve my score?
