The Voice Pitch Test helps you measure how high or low your voice sounds by analyzing a short microphone sample. It shows your current pitch, average pitch, lowest and highest stable pitch, nearest musical notes, observed pitch span, and pitch stability.
The tool works with both speaking and sustained vocal sounds. You can speak naturally if you want a picture of your conversational pitch behavior, or hold a comfortable vowel such as “ah” if you want a steadier reading.
Your result describes the acoustic pitch detected in that recording. It does not determine your gender, age, personality, attractiveness, exact voice type, or vocal health.

How to Use the Voice Pitch Test
The test takes about 10 seconds.
- Click Start Voice Pitch Test.
- Allow microphone access when your browser asks for permission.
- Speak naturally or sustain one comfortable vocal sound.
- Watch the live pitch and musical note update while you use your voice.
- Let the timer finish or click Finish Test when you have provided enough audio.
- Review your average, lowest, and highest detected pitch.
- Check your observed semitone span and Pitch Stability score.
- Use Copy Results to save the measurements or Test Again to repeat the test.
For the cleanest result, use a quiet room and keep a fairly consistent distance from your microphone.
What Does Voice Pitch Mean?
Voice pitch describes how high or low your voice is perceived.
It is closely related to the fundamental frequency, often called F0, produced by vocal-fold vibration. Frequency is measured in Hertz (Hz), which represents cycles per second.
A higher fundamental frequency is generally perceived as a higher pitch. A lower fundamental frequency is generally perceived as a lower pitch.
However, pitch is only one characteristic of a voice. Two people can produce similar fundamental frequencies and still sound very different because of resonance, harmonics, articulation, and vocal timbre.

Understanding Your Average Voice Pitch
The most important result is your Average Voice Pitch.
For example:
Average Voice Pitch: 146.8 Hz
The tool also shows the nearest equal-tempered musical note for context.
Average pitch summarizes the stable frequencies detected across the usable parts of your sample. It is often more useful than looking at one instant because normal speech and singing constantly move between frequencies.
If you speak during the test, your average reflects the pitch behavior of that specific spoken sample.
If you sustain a vowel, the average is likely to cluster much more tightly around one frequency.
That means you should compare similar tests with each other. Comparing a conversational sentence with a sustained note can produce very different results even though both come from the same voice.
Lowest and Highest Stable Pitch
The Voice Pitch Test also shows your Lowest Stable Pitch and Highest Stable Pitch during the sample.
These are not based on a single extreme frame. The tool uses stable detected pitch information to reduce the influence of brief outliers.
For example, a result might look like:
- Lowest Stable Pitch: 118 Hz
- Highest Stable Pitch: 184 Hz
- Observed Span: 7.7 semitones
This tells you how much your pitch moved within the recording.
For conversational speech, that span can reflect natural intonation.
For a sustained vowel, the observed span will usually be much narrower.

Pitch in Hz vs Musical Notes
The tool displays both frequency in Hz and the nearest musical note.
These are two ways of describing the same underlying pitch.
For example:
- A4 = 440 Hz
- C4 ≈ 261.63 Hz
- C3 ≈ 130.81 Hz
The musical-note label is useful if you think about your voice in terms of piano or singing notes. The Hz result is more precise when you want to compare acoustic frequency.
A speaking voice may sit between standard note frequencies rather than remaining exactly on one note. That is completely normal because speech is continuous, not limited to discrete musical pitches.

What Does Pitch Stability Mean?
The Pitch Stability score describes how much short-term pitch movement appears in the analyzed sample.
A sustained vowel such as “ah” may produce a relatively high stability score because the pitch remains centered around one note.
Conversational speech naturally moves up and down, so it can produce a lower score.
That does not mean the speaking voice is worse.
Pitch movement is a normal part of expression, emphasis, questioning, emotion, and phrasing.
When comparing stability scores, use approximately the same type of sample each time.

Speaking Pitch vs Singing Pitch
Your speaking pitch and singing pitch are related, but they are not the same measurement.
During normal speech, pitch constantly changes with:
- sentence structure;
- emphasis;
- emotion;
- volume;
- articulation;
- individual speaking habits.
During singing, you intentionally organize pitch around musical notes.
You may therefore get one average when speaking and a very different one while singing.

Voice Pitch Is Not the Same as Vocal Range
Pitch describes the frequency of the sound you are producing at a particular time.
Vocal range describes the distance between the lowest and highest notes you can produce under a chosen testing method.
For example, your speaking sample may average around one relatively narrow frequency region, while your singing range may extend several octaves beyond it.
That means a low average speaking pitch does not automatically mean you have a large low singing range, and a high speaking pitch does not automatically identify a specific singing voice type.

Can Pitch Tell You Your Voice Type?
Not by itself.
Traditional singing categories such as soprano, mezzo-soprano, contralto, tenor, baritone, and bass involve more than a single average frequency.
Voice classification can also consider:
- comfortable tessitura;
- usable range;
- register transitions;
- vocal weight;
- timbre;
- where the voice feels strongest.
An average pitch measurement can provide useful acoustic information, but it should not be treated as a complete voice classification.

Why Does My Voice Pitch Change?
Your measured pitch may vary between tests.
Common reasons include:
- speaking versus singing;
- different words or phrases;
- emotional expression;
- vocal fatigue;
- warming up;
- register changes;
- microphone position;
- background noise;
- room acoustics;
- deliberate pitch movement.

How to Get a Cleaner Pitch Reading
For more consistent results:
- use a quiet room;
- keep your microphone at a steady distance;
- avoid background music;
- speak clearly rather than whispering;
- avoid touching or moving the microphone;
- prevent the input from clipping;
- repeat the same type of sample when comparing results.
If you want a very stable measurement, sustain a comfortable vowel for several seconds.
If you want to study normal speaking pitch behavior, use natural speech instead.
Accuracy and Limitations
The Voice Pitch Test estimates fundamental frequency from the microphone signal.
Results can be affected by:
- microphone quality;
- room echo;
- strong background noise;
- clipping;
- very quiet input;
- vocal fry;
- breathiness;
- strong vibrato;
- fast pitch changes;
- harmonics;
- device audio processing.
Pitch detection can occasionally follow a strong harmonic rather than the intended fundamental frequency, which may cause an unusually high or low reading.
For that reason, the tool filters and summarizes multiple stable measurements rather than relying on one instant.
Privacy and Microphone Processing
Microphone access begins only after you click Start Voice Pitch Test.
The plugin analyzes your microphone signal locally in the browser to calculate the displayed pitch results.
It does not include a feature that uploads or permanently saves the microphone recording.
When the test finishes or you reset it, the active microphone stream is stopped.
Your browser still controls microphone permission, so you can deny or revoke access through its privacy settings.

Why does my live pitch jump around?
Natural voice movement, harmonics, noise, vibrato, and unstable signals can all cause changes. The final results use multiple measurements rather than relying only on the live display.
Does a low pitch mean I have a bass voice?
Not necessarily. A single speaking-pitch measurement does not determine singing voice type. Range, tessitura, register transitions, and other characteristics also matter.
Can this test measure my full vocal range?
No. It only measures the pitch behavior present during this short sample. A dedicated vocal-range test is needed to identify your lowest and highest singable notes.
Does microphone quality matter?
Yes. A clear microphone signal generally makes pitch tracking easier, while noisy, distorted, or very quiet input can reduce reliability.
Does this tool save my voice?

Use Your Pitch Result in Context
Your average pitch is a useful measurement, but it is only one part of your voice.
The most meaningful way to use the Voice Pitch Test is to compare similar recordings over time. Test natural speech against natural speech, or sustained tones against sustained tones, instead of treating every result as directly comparable.
