Unlike meme-style voice rankings that try to turn one frequency number into a judgment about attractiveness, masculinity, personality, or social status, this tool keeps the result transparent. It measures your median speaking pitch, average pitch, lowest and highest stable pitch, observed pitch span, nearest musical note, and pitch stability.

Your result describes the 10-second voice sample you provide. It does not define your identity or how other people perceive your voice.

How to Take the Voicecel Test

The test uses your microphone and takes about 10 seconds.

  1. Click Start Voicecel Test.
  2. Allow microphone access when your browser asks.
  3. Speak naturally in your normal voice.
  4. Avoid deliberately forcing your pitch lower or higher.
  5. Keep a steady distance from your microphone.
  6. Let the timer finish or click Finish Test.
  7. Review your Voicecel-style pitch result.
  8. Check the detailed frequency measurements below it.
  9. Use Copy Results to save your numbers.
  10. Click Test Again if you want to compare another sample.

For the most useful comparison, use a similar sentence, microphone, room, and speaking style each time.

What Does the Voicecel Test Actually Measure?

The main measurement is your fundamental frequency, commonly abbreviated as F0.

Fundamental frequency represents the basic rate at which your vocal folds are vibrating during voiced speech. It is measured in Hertz (Hz).

In simple terms:

  • lower frequency usually sounds lower in pitch;
  • higher frequency usually sounds higher in pitch.

The Voicecel Test analyzes many usable pitch measurements during your sample instead of judging your voice from one instant.

This is important because normal speech constantly moves up and down.

Why the Test Uses Median Speaking Pitch

Your biggest result is based on median speaking pitch rather than a single live frequency.

Suppose your detected pitch values include:

110 Hz, 115 Hz, 117 Hz, 119 Hz, 121 Hz, and one brief 230 Hz reading.

That high value could come from a harmonic, a moment of intonation, or an unstable frame. Using a middle measurement makes the result less sensitive to brief extremes.

This is why median pitch can be useful for a conversational voice sample.

The tool also shows your average pitch, so you can compare both measurements.

Median and average may be very similar in a consistent recording, but they can differ when your speech contains larger pitch changes.

Understanding the Voicecel-Style Pitch Scale

The tool converts your median speaking pitch into one of five simple descriptive regions:

  • Very Deep
  • Deep
  • Mid
  • High
  • Very High

These labels are designed to make the result easy to understand.

They are not scientific voice classifications.

A result such as Deep simply means that the median fundamental frequency measured in that specific recording fell into the lower part of the tool’s pitch scale.

It does not mean:

  • more attractive;
  • more masculine;
  • more confident;
  • more dominant;
  • better;
  • worse.

Likewise, a higher pitch result should not be treated as a negative score.

Median Pitch vs Average Pitch

The tool provides both values because they answer slightly different questions.

Median Pitch represents the middle of your detected pitch measurements.

Average Pitch adds the measurements together and calculates their mathematical mean.

If your speech is relatively consistent, the two numbers may be close.

If you use strong intonation, large pitch jumps, or vocal fry, they may differ more noticeably.

Neither number is automatically the “true” permanent frequency of your voice. Your voice changes continuously depending on what and how you are speaking.

Lowest and Highest Stable Pitch

The Voicecel Test also estimates your Lowest Stable Pitch and Highest Stable Pitch from the recording.

These values help show how much your pitch moved during the 10-second sample.

For example:

  • Lowest Stable Pitch: 95 Hz
  • Highest Stable Pitch: 148 Hz
  • Median Pitch: 112 Hz

A conversational voice naturally travels across multiple frequencies. Questions, emphasis, emotion, and sentence structure all change pitch.

That means your lowest and highest values should be interpreted as the observed boundaries of this sample, not your full singing range.

What Does Observed Pitch Span Mean?

The tool converts the difference between your lower and higher stable pitches into semitones.

A semitone is one musical half-step.

Twelve semitones equal one octave.

If your sample spans 8 semitones, for example, that means your speech moved across roughly two-thirds of an octave during the analyzed section.

This does not mean your complete voice range is only 8 semitones.

Conversational speech usually covers only part of the frequencies you may be capable of producing while singing.

What Does Pitch Stability Mean?

The Pitch Stability score estimates how much short-term pitch movement appears in your sample.

A sustained vowel will often produce a higher stability score than natural speech.

That does not make the sustained sound “better.”

Normal speech requires pitch movement. We raise and lower pitch to communicate emphasis, emotion, questions, and phrasing.

Use Pitch Stability mainly when comparing similar samples.

For example:

  • natural speech vs natural speech;
  • sustained vowel vs sustained vowel.

Does a Lower Hz Mean a Deeper Voice?

Generally, a lower fundamental frequency corresponds to a lower perceived pitch.

But voice depth is more than one frequency number.

Two people can have similar F0 measurements and still sound noticeably different because of:

  • resonance;
  • harmonics;
  • vocal-tract shape;
  • articulation;
  • spectral balance;
  • speaking style.

That is why voice pitch should not be treated as a complete description of how someone’s voice sounds.

Can You Intentionally Change Your Voicecel Result?

Yes.

If you deliberately speak lower, higher, more softly, or with a different register, the measured frequency can change.

That is why the best way to take the test is to speak naturally.

Trying to force an unusually low pitch may produce a number that does not represent your everyday voice and can also create unnecessary vocal tension.

Why Your Result May Change Between Tests

Receiving a slightly different result is normal.

Speaking pitch can change because of:

  • sentence choice;
  • emotion;
  • emphasis;
  • fatigue;
  • warm-up;
  • speaking volume;
  • vocal fry;
  • register;
  • microphone position;
  • room noise;
  • microphone response.

Your voice is not a fixed-frequency instrument.

If you want to compare results over time, repeat the test under approximately the same conditions.

Accuracy and Limitations

Microphone pitch detection is an estimate.

Results may be affected by:

  • background noise;
  • room echo;
  • poor microphone quality;
  • clipping;
  • very quiet speech;
  • whispering;
  • vocal fry;
  • breathiness;
  • strong harmonics;
  • sudden pitch jumps;
  • device audio processing.

The tool filters multiple measurements and uses stable parts of your sample, but no browser test should be treated as a perfect laboratory measurement.

It also cannot determine from voice pitch alone:

  • attractiveness;
  • masculinity or femininity;
  • biological sex;
  • gender identity;
  • personality;
  • confidence;
  • dating success;
  • social status;
  • vocal health.

A number such as 110 Hz or 180 Hz is an acoustic measurement, not a judgment about the person producing it.
