Accessibility Statement

Last updated: 27 September 2026

In short: We want everyone to be able to find their vocal range and understand the result, including people who use a keyboard, a screen reader or a phone, and people who can’t or don’t want to sing into a microphone. This page lists what we have done, what we know is not good enough yet, and how to tell us about a barrier.

What We Have Done

In September 2026 the ten main tools were rebuilt. Their code and test reports show:

  • No microphone needed for range tools: the vocal range test, the voice type test, the singer comparison and the octave test let you choose your notes from lists, and the vocal range calculator works without a microphone at all.
  • Labelled controls: buttons, lists and inputs have text labels, and the keyboard focus is clearly outlined.
  • Results announced: status messages and results sit in live regions, so screen readers announce them when they change.
  • Text, not only graphics: the tools that draw charts, keyboards or pitch traces give them a text description, and every result is also written out in words and numbers you can copy.
  • Color is never the only signal: scores and matches are shown as numbers and words as well as colors.
  • Less motion: eight of the ten tools reduce animation when your device asks for reduced motion.
  • Phones: each tool was checked at phone widths with no sideways scrolling, and error messages say what to do next.

Keyboard tab order was tested step by step on the Voice Type Checker used on the voice-type pages such as soprano vocal range. Articles use real headings in order, and charts are explained in the text around them.

Known Limitations

  • Some tools need your voice. AI Voice Analysis, Rate My Voice, the voicecel test and the Voice Frequency Test measure your voice itself, so they can’t work without the microphone (the Voice Frequency Test does include a converter from Hz to a note).
  • Older tools: nine tools, such as the note detector and the vocal tier test, have not been rebuilt or reviewed for accessibility yet.
  • Not formally audited: we have not had the site audited against the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG), and we have not tested the tools with a screen reader ourselves. We don’t claim conformance with any WCAG level.
  • Ads: ads are placed by our advertising partner and can shift content while a page loads. We don’t control ad content.
  • Browsers: our tests used a Chromium browser. Safari, Firefox and physical Android phones were not part of the test setup.

Tips for Using the Tools

  • Use the manual note lists if singing into the microphone is difficult; the result is the same as with the microphone.
  • Every result can be copied as plain text, which you can paste into a document or read with your own tools.
  • The FAQ covers common microphone problems.

What Comes Next

The older tools will get the same checks when they are rebuilt, and each rebuild adds them to the tool’s test report. All tools are listed on the tools page; this statement is updated whenever that work changes what is true here.

Tell Us About a Barrier

If something on the site is hard or impossible to use, please email info@vocalrangetest.com or use the contact page. Tell us the page address, what you were trying to do, and the device, browser and any assistive technology you use (for example “iPhone, Safari, VoiceOver”). Accessibility reports are treated as bugs: we reproduce the problem, fix it where we can, and add a check for it to the tool’s tests.

How the tools are built and tested is on the methodology page, and our wider standards are in the editorial guidelines.
