In short: Your voice never leaves your device. Our tools analyze the microphone signal inside your browser, keep no recording, store nothing and send no audio or results to our server or anyone else. What does travel over the internet is the normal traffic of any website: loading the page, analytics and ads.
What Happens When You Press Start
- Your browser asks whether this site may use the microphone. Nothing listens before you agree.
- The tool receives the live signal through the browser’s Web Audio system and measures its pitch many times a second.
- Only numbers are kept while the test runs: the current note, its frequency and the notes you save.
- When you stop, reset, finish or leave the page, the tool switches the microphone off and closes its audio connection.
- Reloading or closing the page erases the result. The tools set no cookies and use no browser storage.
How the pitch is measured is explained on the methodology page.
How We Know the Audio Stays Local
On 27 September 2026 we checked the scripts of every tool on the site, including the older ones not yet rebuilt. None of them contains code that sends data to a server, none records audio, and none writes to cookies or browser storage. Each rebuilt microphone tool also passed a test that the microphone switches off when the test ends. If a future tool needs to do anything different, this page will say so before it goes live.
Files, Copies and Downloads
- Song Key Finder: the Song Key Finder can analyze an audio file you pick. The file is decoded in your browser and is not uploaded.
- Score image: Rate My Voice can create a score card image. It is drawn on your device and saved to your downloads or shared only if you choose.
- Copy buttons: copying a result puts text on your own clipboard; nothing is sent to us.
What Is Sent Over the Internet
Like any website, loading a page sends a normal request to our web host, which receives your IP address and browser details. The site also loads Google Analytics, which counts visits, and ads from Journey by Mediavine, which use cookies to show and measure ads. None of these scripts receive microphone audio or tool results. Details and your choices are in the privacy policy and the cookies policy.
The site is served over HTTPS, so the connection between your browser and the site is encrypted. Browsers only allow microphone access on secure pages, and the rebuilt tools tell you if the page is not secure.
Controlling Microphone Permission
Your browser remembers whether you allowed the microphone for this site. You can change that at any time:
- Chrome and Edge: click the icon to the left of the address bar → Site settings → Microphone.
- Safari on Mac: Safari → Settings → Websites → Microphone.
- iPhone and iPad: tap the “aA” or page-settings button in the address bar → Website Settings → Microphone.
- Firefox: click the permissions icon in the address bar and clear the microphone permission.
While a tool is listening, most browsers show a microphone or recording indicator in the tab or address bar. More microphone fixes are in the FAQ.
Information You Send Us
There are no user accounts for visitors. If you email us, your message and email address are kept in our mailbox so we can answer and follow up, and you can ask us to delete them. You never need to send a voice recording; the notes or Hz values a tool showed are enough. Please don’t email passwords or sensitive health information.
Limits
No website can promise absolute security, and we don’t. Your device, browser and extensions are outside our control: a browser extension with permission to read pages could see what you do on any site. Keep your browser updated and review extension permissions.
Reporting a Security Problem
If you find a security or privacy problem on the site, please email info@vocalrangetest.com with the page address and what you found, or use the contact page. Please don’t test in ways that could affect other visitors.
